Special thanks to my readers and subscribers

Reading time: About 1 minute

Today, I’m saying thanks to my readers and asking for a bit of special help (not money!) in return….

This post marks my 935th blog and my 18th year as a blogger.

Where the heck did all that time go?

If you’re a long-time reader, THANK YOU for your perseverance and loyalty. I really appreciate it.

If you’re a new reader, apologies for this “inside baseball” column. I don’t generally toot my own horn or talk about how the sausages are made. Instead, I just try to provide worthwhile advice about how to write better, faster.

Of course, some things have changed with time. When I started this blog back in 2006, I often wrote it on Monday nights, sometimes frantically scrambling for a topic.

And a lack of ideas isn’t the only speedbump I’ve encountered over the years. I have been hacked twice — the first time, the hackers replaced my site with a line-drawing of a drug user shooting up in a toilet. Lovely.

But I recovered from the hacking incident and, soon after, developed a long list of topics to write about, so I wasn’t hostage to inspiration, either. These days, I almost always write the column at least a week in advance, and I have a professional copy editor. (Thank you, Melodie!)

You may have noticed that I’ve never migrated to Substack and started trying to charge you for this column. It is and will always remain free, as a taste of what I do and as a helping hand to you.

But — and I know this is a big ask — could you help this newsletter grow by passing it along to five colleagues or friends and asking them to subscribe as well? (Or, if you’re reading this on my blog, could I ask you to subscribe yourself? Just click here and enter your name and email address in the form at the top of the page.)

I respect your trust in giving me your email address, and I will never share, rent or sell it.

Over the last 18 years, many thousands of readers have subscribed to this blog, and that’s who I write it for.

Thanks for being part of this special group. And thanks for helping to make it bigger.
